The Visakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT) has planned to commission a 10MW solar power plant by March 2016 in two phases in the Port city.
The first phase will involve set up 2MW solar power by January 15, 2016 Where as the second phase will include commissioning of the remaining 8 MW solar power by March 20, 2016. VPT is the first among 12 major ports in India to go ahead with the solar power project following the directions given by the ministry of shipping.Talking to newsmen here today, VPT Chairman , MT Krishna Babu said the they had issued Draft Tender Document for setting up the solar plant adjacent to the Vizag Airport Runway area on the land belonging to VPT. The contract to commission the solar power project has been awarded to Jakson Engineer Limited, Noida following the tender process undertaken by Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI).The VPT Chairman said the total project is estimated at Rs60 crore including annual maintenance charges of Rs2.5 crore. The solar power project will be maintained for seven years by Jakson Engineer Limited (JEL)Noida and VPT has identified around 50 acres of land for installing the solar pane
The project will supply around 150 lakh units of power to VPT and the surplus power will be given to public private partnership operators, he said.
Apart from the 10 MW solar power units, VPT has installed 100KW rooftop solar plant at the Port Golden Jubilee Hospital in the city and Andhra Pradesh Chief minister N.Chandrababu Naidu likely to inaugurate the rooftop solar plant in the first week of November.
VPT is in talks with Solar Energy Corporation of India Ltd. is a company of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India, established to facilitate the implementation of Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission.... More to assess the feasibility of setting up a 500 KW rooftop solar plant at the VPT Mega Sport Complex. The VPT also planned to complete LED lighting of the port area by January 2016, he added.
This is not only the first for any major port in India but also the biggest solar power project in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh. It would also serve as a demonstrator and be visible to every visitor flying into the city, he said.
The Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (APEPDCL) Chairman and Managing Director R. Mutyala Raju said the VPT in synchronizing it with the State power grid. The project would help us reach our first year target of commissioning renewable energy projects,
