it’s not the actual ash pond, only for representation

Two Class-4 students drowned in a fly ash dam of Sasan Ultra Mega Power Plant in Singrauli district, about 740 km east from Bhopal, on Sunday.

The deceased’s kin staged a protest and demanded compensation, accusing the plant administration of not fencing and deploying security personnel at the pond.

According to police, eight children of Harrhawa village under Waidhan police station went to bathe in a pond beside the dam. Of them, two students identified as Pramod Sahu and Suraj Sahu, 8, ventured into deep water and drowned.

On getting information, a police team along with divers recovered the bodies. Superintendent of police (SP), Singrauli, Rudolf Alvares said that a case has been registered and investigation is on.

The villagers held an agitation in front of the pond and accused the plant administration of negligence. “The power plant should have fenced the pond and deployed security personnel so that no one could take bath in this deep pond,” said Sumit Sahu, relative of one of the deceased.

Later, senior district administration officer, led by sub divisional magistrate (SDM) Swarochish Somvanshi, promised protesters of action. Talking to media persons, Somvanshi said a committee has been formed to conduct a probe into the incident.
