Three killed, 16 injured in accident at Harduaganj thermal station

Three persons were killed while another sixteen suffered injuries after a cylinder blast inside the Harduaganj thermal power station of Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (UPRVUNL) in Aligarh district on Saturday morning.

Aligarh DM Balkar Singh said that while the exact cause behind the accident is yet to be ascertained, prima facie it has been found that a cylinder blast occurred in the morning when repair work was being done inside the station.

UPRVUNL managing director Sanjay Prasad who was on his way to Harduaganj, said a technical inquiry has been ordered to find out the exact cause of the accident.

He said that the accident appears to have occurred because of a cylinder blast during the work of welding inside the station.

Prasad said the unit where accident happened, had been closed for nearly a month and the overhauling was being done there. He said those killed in the accident were employees of the contractor handling the overhauling work.

The DM said that the government has announced financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh for the kin of each killed and the injured are being provided treatment free of cost.
