Tamil Nadu to set up 4000 mw power plant


The Tamil Nadu government on Tuesday announced the setting up of  a new 4,000-MW thermal power plant at a cost of Rs 24,000 crore at Ramanathapuram in the state. The state government also announced a decision to strengthen distribution capacity at a cost of Rs 6,791 crore.

CM J Jayalalithaa said in the assembly 3,000 acres of land for the project has been identified and work will start after getting necessary approvals. After she took charge in 2011, TN has added 5,945.5 MW of power to the grid.

“These were done through projects implemented by TANGEDCO, along with share from the Centre’s power projects and others,” she said.
