Stating that the Central government ignored the massive opposition from all quarters to the Land Acquisition Bill, a signature campaign to register the opposition from the public began here on Wednesday.
Led by Community Party of India (Marxist) district secretary P. Thangavelu, All India Kissan Sabha district secretary P. Thangavelu and its district president A. Ponnusamy and Democratic Youth Federation of India district secretary N. Praveen Kumar, cadre were actively involved in explaining to the public about the ill-affects of the Bill and obtained signature from the commuters at Dr. MGR Central Bus Stand (New Bus Stand) on Omalur Road.
They said that the NDA government is keen on passing the Bill to favour the private companies, thereby depriving the rights of farmers who are already suffering. They added that if land can be acquired using force by the government, farmers would be pushed to poverty. “Despite opposition from all quarters, the government want to pass the Bill,” they added.
They said that the CPI (M) is involved in collecting five crore signature from the public across the country and present to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “The campaign was being held across the district, particularly in villages,” they added. Members said that various forms of protest would continue until the government withdraws the Ordinance.
