Second half of Budget Session resumes tomorrow

The second half of the Budget Session will start from tomorrow and is likely to be a stormy affair with the government determined to push through the Land Acquisition Bill and the opposition making all efforts to stall it.

The government was trying to take non-Congress, non-Left parties especially the Samajwadi Party and AIADMK on board to back the legislation but after the Janata Parivar merger, the chances of support are very low.

Besides Land Bill, the government is also mulling to move other crucial bills which includes the GST Bill, Real Estate Development and Regulation Bill, Undisclosed Foreign Income and Assets Imposition of Tax Bill, 2015, Warehousing Corporation Bill and the Regional Rural Banks Bill.

A bill for setting up a premier institution under the Ministry of Steel, on the lines of IITs, is also expected to be tabled during the Session. Some other Bills to be discussed include Arbitration and Conciliation Bill, Constitutional Scheduled Castes Order Amendment Bill, Payment and Settlements Systems Bill, Repeal and Amending Bill and the Delhi High Court Bill.

Appealing to the Opposition to allow smooth proceedings  Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu said; “Land Bill is the need of the hour and the government is running against time to catch up with lost opportunities. The world is moving faster. India cannot lag behind.”

Meanwhile, Congress has intensified its agitation against Land Bill and  mustering support by organising the Kisan Khet Mazdoor Rally. Congress also launched a ‘Zameen Wapsi’ website to boost its attack on the Modi government over contentious legislation.
