Bara Thermal Power Project

Bara Thermal Power Project  is a 1980 MW project being built by Prayagraj Power Generation, a power generation subsidiary of the privately owned Jaypee Group at Allahabad district, Uttar Pradesh.

According to the 2010/2011 annual report, the company was in possession of the 1900 acres of land  needed for the project and had received the necessary environmental clearance, water linkage, and coal linkage. Boiler foundations were completed and other construction works was underway. Financial closure had been achieved.

The land requirement for the project is approximately 1486 acres.  Double crop area has been reduced to maximum possible.  No forest land is involved.  The  coal requirement will be 24000 TPD and will be obtained from NCL.  Water requirement of 5125 m3 /hr will be met from river Yamuna at a distance of about 17 km.  As a result of the project 68 families will be displaced besides 902 PAPs.  No National Park/Sanctuary is reported within 10 km of the project site.  Kapri drain has been re-aligned along the west boundary of the project site.  Public hearing was held on 30.5.2008.  Total cost of the project will be Rs. 10000.00 crores including Rs. 300.00 crores for environmental protection measures.

Phase II of two units of 660 MW was announced but necessary clearances were not obtained, it appeared to be shelved.
