Basundhara power project

Basundhara power project is a proposed 1600 MW coal fired power project by Mahanadi coalfields Ltd (MCL) at Sundargarh district in Odisha, India

There was a news in the media in mid 2015 that,

Mahanadi Coalfileds Ltd (MCL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Coal India Limited, will set up a 1600 MW super critical thermal power plant with a total capital investment of Rs. 11363.18 crore at Basundhara area in Sundargarh district, said Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) Animesh Nandan Sahay.

Apart from thermal power production, MCL will also deal in power transmission for which two units have been set up, Sahay said adding that while Mahanadi Basin Power Ltd will deal in thermal power production, Nilachal Power Transmission Ltd will look after the transmission.

Besides, MCL has also incorporated a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) by joining hands with State owned Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Develo-pment Corporation (IDCO) and Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL) or IRCON to expedite evacuation
