Pirpainti Thermal Power Project

Pirpainti Thermal Power Project, which has been proposed by the Pirpainti Bijlee Company, was originally scheduled to be commissioned in 2015-16, with power to be sold to the Bihar State Electricity Board.

The Bihar State Electricity Board states that the project will require 6.25 million tonnes of coal, an allocation which was sought in 2006. BSEB also states that 1171 acres has been identified for acquisition via the Industrial Development Authority (IDA) of Bihar and that the Water Resources Department has given consent for 55 Cusecs to be allocated from the Ganga River for the project. BSEB also states that the environmental impact assessment report has been completed and public hearings on it held in July 2010.

According to the website Bihar Days, Ganga Power & Natural Resources (GPNR) Ltd signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Bihar State Electricity Board (BSEB) for setting up a super critical thermal power project (2×660 MW) at Pirpainty in Bhagalpur district, to begin operation in 2014.

In February 2014 a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed amongst Bihar State Power Generation Company, NHPC and Pirpainti Bijlee Company for development of the 1,320 MW Pirpainti power station. NHPC and Bihar State Power Generation Company will develop the project through the joint venture Pirpainti Bijlee Company.
