Chennai-based Neyveli Lignite Corporation Ltd (NLC), a Navratna public sector undertaking (PSU) is all set to up a coal-based power station and solar manufacturing plant in the State. The NLC took the decision after the Talabira-II and Talabira-III coal blocks were awarded to it.
According to sources, top executives of the NLC, including its chairman and managing director had visited the State recently and held discussions with the senior State Government officials.
“They are keen to establish a thermal power plant and a solar power plant in the State. But the location is yet to be finalised,” sources said.
The PSU had earlier proposed to set up a 2,000 MW coal-fired power plant in Odisha through a joint venture with a State Government owned PSU. The proposed power plant envisages an investment of around Rs 10,000 crore.
Though the location for the proposed power plant is yet to be decided, NLC had showed interest to set up the thermal and solar manufacturing plant in the vicinity of Talabira-II and Talabira-III situated under the command area of MCL.
