At the Independence Day function, Mr. Mohan said the management was in dialogue with the Tamil Nadu Government and other states to get the required land for setting up solar power plants with a capacity of 500 MW and above.

The projects would be implemented based on land availability and techno economic viability of the project. In addition, NLC had already initiated steps to set up smaller solar power plants of 10/15 MW capacity in Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan.

The NLC had attained Commercial Operation Declaration (COD) of the first 500 MW unit of NLC Tamil Nadu Power Limited (NTPL), a joint venture of the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) and the Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) in Tuticorin, while the commissioning of the second unit of similar capacity was in advanced stage.

Mr. Mohan said that NLC had generated 19729.39 million units of power as against the target of 20825 million units. The shortfall was mainly due to delay in commissioning of new projects.

On the 1,000 MW Neyveli New Thermal Power Project, the Chairman said that its first 500-MW unit was expected to be commissioned in October 2017 and the second 500-MW unit in April 2018.

The administrative sanction from the Tamil Nadu Government for the 4000 MW coal based Thermal Power project in Sirkazhi in the state was expected shortly.

The Chairman said that the total power generation capacity of NLC would go up to 12,221 MW including solar and wind power projects at the end of the 13th plan with the implementation of new projects such as 250 MW Thermal power project at Bithnok, 250 MW Thermal power station expansion project at Barsingar in Rajasthan and expansion of Thermal Power Station II expansion and Restructuring of Mine I and I A at Neyveli.

Mr. Mohan informed that NLC had completed construction of 1,131 toilets in 635 schools in Tamil Nadu and 142 toilets in 77 schools in Rajasthan under the Swacch Vidyalaya Abhiyan.
