Meghnaghat power plant resumes operation

Meghnaghat 450 MW combined cycle power plant, which remained shut for one year following a fire incident, resumed operation on Wednesday. The plant resumed commercial operation at a function attended by Prime Minister’s Adviser Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury and principal secretary to the Prime Minister Abul Kalam Azad. An official statement of Pendeker Energy, the Malaysian owner and operator of the independent power producer (IPP) plant, said the plant resumed its commercial operation on a simple cycle mode with a generating capacity of 273.6 MW. Speaking at the function on the plant premises, director of Meghnaght plant Dato Mohammad Nazri said they have been able to bring 60.8 per cent of the plant’s original capacity, according to a news agency.
