Lanco Solar, an arm of Lanco Infratech Limited (LITL), on Monday teamed up with the Chhattisgarh government to set up a 100-mw solar cell manufacturing plant at Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh.
This will be part of the integrated solar PV manufacturing project the company is putting up there with a capital outlay of Rs 1,200 crore to manufacture poly-silicon refining, a wafer plant and 150 mw module plant.
The company has business interests in engineering, procurement and construction (EPC), power, solar, natural resources and infrastructure.
Lanco Solar will now make an additional investment of Rs 1,100 crore in Chhattisgarh to set up the solar cell manufacturing plant. Of this Rs 800 crore will be invested by July-end, 2016, and the remaining Rs 300 crore will be put in by November-end, 2016, Raj Kumar Roy, president, Lanco Solar, told FC.
Roy said that the poly-silicon refining and wafer plant and 150 mw module plant will be ready by September, 2016, while the 100 mw solar cell manufacturing plant will be ready by January, 2017.
The project is coming up under the National Solar Mission objective of achieving domestic PV cell production of 2200 mw/year and the Make in India programme of the Central government.
Although the company will be having its own 100-mw solar cell manufacturing plant, Lanco will broadly be playing the role of anchor industry to attract investments from other solar PV manufacturing units within this plug and play SEZ zone, Roy said.
Once completely ready, the Lanco integrated complex will have the potential to house 3-4 gw solar capacity. “We welcome the government’s initiative of accelerating development and green energy mission by inviting participation from foreign players who will not only bring in technological know-how, but will also create employment opportunities. Solar power in India has a promising future.
We feel that the location of the plant is ideal for the entire Indian market. We are excited to join hands with Chhattisgarh government as this will be a showcase project being the first poly silicon and ingots and wafers manufacturing facility in India, which will bring Chhattisgarh on global Silicon map. At the same time, it plays anchor industry role to attract investments in other solar PV manufacturing units within this plug and play SEZ zone,” said L Madhusudhan Rao, executive chairman, Lanco Infratech.
