The NDA government has initiated the process to send the controversial Land Acquisition Bill to a joint committee of Parliament which will have members from both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
A top government source said that the joint panel is likely to be headed by BJP’s Lok Sabha member SS Ahluwalia.
TOI was first to report that land bill is likely to be sent to joint panel of Parliament.
The move came after the government realized that it did not have the required numbers in the Upper House.
The joint committee will discuss changes, if any, and accordingly the bill will be brought in the monsoon session of Parliament.
Earlier in the day, the bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha amid strong protests from the opposition, including Congress.
