Ahmedabad: Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) has received bids from 18 companies for the supply of 500 MW wind power to the state-run power utility. The Gujarat high court in its recent order allowed GUVNL to continue with the bidding process. The technical bids were opened few days back and the financial bids will be opened on November 15.
“A total 18 bids have been received from wind power developers from different parts of the country,” said a source close to the development. GUVNL did not name the companies which are in the fray, but sources added that the bidders include leading wind power producers from the private sector and state and central PSUs.
Earlier, technical and financial bids were scheduled to be opened on October 25 and November 1, respectively. But, the bidding was postponed after Gujarat high court stayed the auction acting on a petition filed by Indian Wind Energy Association (IWEA).
The associated objected to the competitive bidding process, approved by Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC), on the ground that the central government had only issued draft guidelines for governing such wind energy auction, and it had not finalized any such guidelines. The high court this week turned down the petition by INDIAN WIND ENERGY ASSOCIATION To utilize the wind energy resources in the country in an optimal manner and thereby contribute to the country’s quest for affordable, clean energy as well as energy security. To promote and spread awareness about the benefits of wind energy and the crucial role it can play in ensuring a sustainable path for the country’s economic... allowing the bidding process to continue. The high court, however, has restrained GERC from granting final approval to the process. In June this year, GUVNL had floated two separate tenders for procuring 500MW each from solar and wind power projects through competitive bidding, which was delayed more than twice due to various reasons. This story has not been edited by coalpost and is auto-generated from a syndicated feed of ET https://energy.economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/renewable/eighteen-firms-bid-to-supply-wind-power-in-guvnl-auction/61621730?utm_source=RSS&utm_medium=ETRSS
