A vigilance court in Kerala has directed that a case be registered against chief minister Oommen Chandy and power minister Aryadan Mohammad.
The development follows the explosive revelation on Wednesday by Saritha S. Nair before the Solar Commission, a judicial commission inquiring into the solar power scam in Kerala. Nair’s deposition before the solar commission led to a public interest litigation at the Thrissur vigilance court. The court swiftly ordered that a case be registered.
The same court’s adverse pronouncements last week had led to the resignation of excise minister K. Babu.
The development pushes the chief minister and the United Democratic Front government itself to the brink. Earlier, finance minister K.M. Mani had to quit over allegations in the liquor bar bribery case. Minister Babu, too, had to resign over the same allegation.
