Congress Deputy Leader in Lok Sabha Amarinder Singh today said his party will in no way allow the BJP-led NDAgovernment to change the farmer-friendly land acquisitionact to facilitate “land grab by corporate houses”.
Addressing a series of meetings with party leaders, sitting and former legislators from Punjab and office-bearers of the Jat Maha Sabha here, Singh appealed to them to ensure maximum participation in the farmer rally scheduled to be held in Delhi on April 19.
The leaders and legislators assured him of maximum participation in the rally from Punjab.
Singh said the NDA government has not only tried to dilute the farmer-friendly act but also decided to cut by fifty per cent procurement of wheat and paddy by the Food Corporation of India.
“This appears to be just a beginning and we do not know where it will end,” the former Punjab Chief Minister said, adding that “we need to get all this nipped in the bud as the NDA government is proving to be totally insensitive towards farmers.”
He lashed out at Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, whose Shiromani Akali Dal is part of the NDA, for his “silence on and support” to the “anti-farmer” measures of the central government.
He reiterated that Badal should better use his influence on the NDA for farmers’ welfare and “not for his personal vested interests”.
