With veteran Bollywood actor Sanjay Khan and Bhojpuri filmstar Ravi Kishan investing in developing a theme park and film city, respectively, in Uttar Pradesh, leading actor Ajay Devgn and film producer Kumar Mangat have expressed interest to set up a solar energy plant in the state. “Ajay Devgn and Kumar Mangat met Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on July 31. During the meeting, they showed interest for investment in UP. Devgn and Mangat are already associated with the solar energy sector in Gujarat and Rajasthan,” Navneet Sehgal, Principal Secretary, Information and Public Relations, said.
“We have invited them to participate in the bidding process for setting up a solar power plant, which will start soon. We will welcome them as per our policy,” Sehgal said. UP has already awarded two solar power plants for 500 MW while bidding process for fresh plants will start soon, he added. State government officials said as per the new solar power policy, 2013, Akhilesh has already developed two solar villages in his wife Dimple Yadav’s constituency Kannauj by setting up a solar power plant under private sector investment.
“Already, two big solar power plants are coming up in Mahoba and Lalitpur. Private companies are showing interest in setting up their solar plants in the Bundelkhand region as well,”
Akhilesh had said during a function on Tuesday. Earlier, several film personalities have shown interest for investment in UP. Sanjay Khan got an approval by the Akhilesh government to set up a theme park in Agra depicting the history and culture of seven cities.
The process of land acquisition is going on for Khan’s project worth Rs 1,000 crore . The state government has also agreed to provide land for a 300-acre film city in Trans Ganga Hightech City Scheme near Unnao district to be promoted by actor Ravi Kishan, while another one will be set up on a sprawling 400-acre by Mumbai-based company ‘Purple Seas’ at Trans Ganga city in Kanpur.
An investment of Rs 650 crore is estimated to be made in the two projects. The UP government also offers cash incentive for shooting films in UP to a, which has led to nearly three dozen films being shot in the state over the past one-and-a-half years.
