Adani Group, which signed an agreement with the Tamil Nadu government for setting up a 648 MW solar power plant in Kamudhi district, has began acquiring about 4,000 acres of private lands even as the district administration has clarified that no government land is being allotted to the group.
The group had started acquiring ‘barren private patta lands’ in at least five villages in Kamudhi taluk and already transferred pattas for 300 acres in the name of Adani Green Energy (Tamil Nadu) Limited, informed sources here said.
The lands had been purchased in Sengapadai, Pudukottai, M Karisalkulam, Mudhal Naadu and Kamudhi in Kamudhi taluk, the sources said. It was not clear how much money the group had paid per acre of land in the area, which had the natural advantage of high solar radiation.
Meanwhile, the district administration denied reports that government lands were being made available to the group for setting up the plant. “Any piece of government land could be given to a company only through the Collector and no government land is given to Adani Group,”
